The Business Wrench Checkup

Before fixing anything, we diagnose what's actually happening. One working session, a review of your numbers and operations, and a clear answer to the question every owner eventually asks: what should I fix first?

What it is

A diagnostic examination of the business

A Business Wrench Checkup is a structured look at how your company actually operates and earns money. It's built for owners who are busy running the business and haven't had time — or an outside perspective — to step back and examine it.

It is not an audit, a bookkeeping engagement, a tax service or a sales pitch for a long consulting retainer. It's a diagnosis, delivered in plain language, with a short list of the things worth acting on.

Who it's for

Established owner-operated service businesses, generally in the $500K–$5M revenue range, with real customers, real employees or subcontractors, and real operating complexity. HVAC, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, cleaning, transportation, auto repair, property services, construction trades and similar companies.

It's a poor fit for pre-revenue startups, businesses looking for a plan template, or anyone who needs tax, legal or accounting work.

What happens during the session

A 60–90 minute conversation with the owner. We go through the business the way an experienced operator would: how work gets sold, how it gets scheduled, who touches it, what it costs, what it earns, and where it gets stuck.

Expect questions rather than a presentation. Most of the value comes from connecting things you already know but haven't looked at side by side — pricing against loaded labor cost, customer mix against margin, growth against owner hours.

What information you'll need

A recent profit and loss statement, a rough picture of your pricing, and a list of your largest customers or job types. A balance sheet, job costing reports or any KPIs you already track are helpful but not required.

You do not need perfect books. Very few owner-operated businesses have them. If the numbers are too unclear to support a conclusion, that's a finding worth knowing.

What you receive

A clear explanation of the major findings, the three to five highest-priority opportunities, practical recommendations, and a 90-day action plan that says what to do first, second and third. It's written to be usable by you and your team — not to be impressive.

What happens after

Most owners implement the plan themselves. If you want help, ongoing advisory is available by engagement. Nothing obligates you to continue, and the Checkup is priced so it stands on its own.
